The Derpy Bowl is made from fired stoneware ceramic that tests lead- and cadmium-free at food-contact levels. The glaze is scratch-resistant, the prints hold up through repeated dishwasher cycles, and a silicone ring on the base keeps the bowl from skating across the floor during mealtime. Manufactured in China. No packaging material is disclosed by the vendor — we've asked and will update this when we hear back.
Stoneware does not compost and is not accepted in curbside recycling. A broken bowl can go to a ceramic recycling drop-off if one exists in your area; otherwise it's landfill. That's the honest answer. The trade-off for choosing ceramic over plastic is durability and the absence of plastic leaching — not a zero-footprint story.
